The 2004 Droogie Awards!
Hi gang -- it's that time of year again, our second annual movie awards: The Milk Plus Droogies.
Here is the protocol: Only members are allowed to nominate, and then once we have a shortlist of 5 (or so), voting for the final awards is open to all readers & members alike. There are 9 categories: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay, Cinematography, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Foreign Film (or it should be International, meaning non-American. Austrian films are not foreign to yun-fat, e.g.).
Following this main post, there will be posts for each of the 9 categories. Members will then be allowed to list their top 5 choices -- 5 max please, and order them from 1 to 5 so we know your preference. Then anyone can volunteer to count up the points from each nominee in each category (5 pts. for 1st place; 4 pts for 2nd place, etc.), and we announce the final shortlists after the nomination process. Then voting begins on the whole thing.
I urge all members to please take the time and go through all the films from 2004 that you saw, from January of last year up to now. Ignore the Academy; there are great performances and technical work from smaller, unrecognized pictures. I will give everyone 2 weeks to come up with a nomination ballot for the 9 categories.
A film is eligible for the Droogies if it was released commercially within the calendar year 2004. If a film was released outside your country in a prior year, but not available to you theatrically until this year, it is eligible.
That means deadline will be Midnight EST, March 10.
