Question of the Week
OK, this week's question of the week will be less morbid than the previous one, and easier to answer. It was inspired by Spike Lee's brilliant
25th Hour, in which New York City is as much a character as Edward Norton's Monty Brogan. This should not be much of a surprise; Spike Lee, like Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen, is inextricably linked to New York City. These directors ties to NYC is representative of the larger connection between cinema and modern urbanism. Since its inception in the late 19th century, cinema, as both an art form and a mass medium, has been intertwined with the modern city, whether it be New York City, Los Angeles, Paris, or Hong Kong. The question of the week is:
Name a movie which best represents a particular city. What about this film captures the essence of the city in question?
