Talk to Her is a fine film, certainly one of my favorites by Almodovar, whose attitude toward women is ambivalent at best (he has the goddess/whore syndrome big time) and misogynist at worst. The movie is beautifully shot and acted, and its frequent preciosity fits the overall story perfectly. It's a very gripping soap opera at heart, but far less melodramatic and much more believable than the wildly out-of-control
All About My Mother, which is the quintessence of what I sometimes detest about Almodovar.
The silent film-within-the-film "The Shrinking Lover" was memorable to say the least, one of those movie moments that will never be forgotten. In fact, the movie has several moments that are literally "great," but the whole lacks that gut effect that nails a film completely for me. I'm too aware I'm watching a carefully wrought, beautifully crafted work of art. Which is not chopped chicken liver, just not enough to make the movie a personal fave. But see it, see it.
