test-re-post my WKW:
I saw Chungking Express for the first time the other day, and fell in
love with it. It seemed to be the merging point of Wong Kar-Wai's old
and new styles. Old style being artsy Hong-Kong action, and the new
style being the last two love films, which are both among my favorites
ever. The first couple in the story was out of the first style, and
then we just switched to the others. (considering i might lose this
post, i'm not writing too carefully, sorry) The cameos of the second
couple in the first half reminded me of Kieszlowski's films, especially
A Short Film About Killing.
I also have a theory about people's favorite WKW films. It appears to
me that whatever is your first WKW, becomes your favorite. You may love
the others as well, but they don't replace the impact of that very
first confrontation. For me, that was Happy Together. Any thoughts?
