Don't get me wrong, joker. I'm not saying Tenoch and Julio were bad guys, devoid of any redeeming qualities whatever. Just terribly obnoxious. I've never actually seen an Adam Sandler movie, but I'm guessing some of the characters that he plays have their good points -- that doesn't stop them from being boorish and uninteresting. I've enjoyed a number of movies where I didn't particularly like the characters. But I needed to be interested in them, to care what happened to them. Not true of Tenoch and Julio. Tu Mamá Spoilers
In terms of what Luisa saw in them, I can see what she saw in the opportunity
they provided her: a chance to escape from her life, to live freely for a few days, but that could have been provided by any random, horny teenage boys. I don't see what she saw specifically in Tenoch and Julio. I suspect she might have had a better time after they returned home and she toured the beaches on her own or with Chuy and his family. And I see no evidence that Tenoch and Julio took anything from their experience. The next time we see them, they appear to be on the exact same path they were destined for prior to meeting Luisa. And the movie shows them experience
homosexual panic, nothing more. Again, I see no evidence that they learned anything about themselves from the experience. Other than chagrined looks on their faces the next morning, we never see them process the experience. Instead, we're told that they lose touch with each other and only have coffee that one day because it's easier than making excuses. Their response to the experience appears to be only repression and denial. This may be realistic, but it's not a very profound observation. And, with the possible exception of Luisa's death, there's not a single thing that happens in the movie that's unexpected. That she would have sex with one, then the other, then both was inevitable. Spoiler End
I don't disagree with you about the craft of the film. My point was only that the same could have been said for Amores Perros
, which you thought was overpraised. And the sex scenes were raw, awkward, realistic and, at the same time, very erotic and sensual. No argument there. Good job on the sex. Like I said, I enjoyed the movie, I'm just not as wild about it as you.
